Description

Sexual orientation and gender identity and expression (SOGIE) are important aspects of everyone’s identity that especially impact the experiences and outcomes of children and young people. SOGIE can be a source of pride and strength and may serve as a protective factor that can promote community, mental health, safety, and well-being. Nevertheless, children and young people in care who identify as or are perceived to be LGBTQIA2S+ continue to encounter challenges during their time in child welfare.

Use this resource to strengthen your agency’s abilities to understand and discuss SOGIE, learn how it overlaps with other identities, and foster an agency environment where LGBTQIA2S+ children and young people feel affirmed, safe, and supported.
