Preparation Checklist for Engagement of Young People and Families in the CFSR
Set the groundwork for meaningful engagement of people with lived experience in the CFSR.
Description
When young people and family members with lived experience in child welfare participate in the Child and Family Services Review (CFSR), state child welfare systems gain valuable insight into what’s working and what isn’t in current child welfare services and generate ideas for improvements.
Use this checklist to identify and put in place needed infrastructure and supports that set the stage for meaningful and ongoing engagement practices. The fillable worksheets will help state CFSR teams consider foundational elements for youth and family engagement (e.g., outreach and communication plans, compensation, training, coaching, and feedback loops), document current status, and assess where attention is needed. Tips are included for how each element can be made even better to meet best practice characteristics.
