This list includes associations, programs, and organizations throughout the United States that work to support and affirm lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) children, youth, and families through a variety of peer-, community-, and culture-based social support; education and outreach; and legal support.

The Trevor Project
A national 24-hour, toll-free, confidential suicide-prevention hotline for LGBTQ youth.
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
A national 24-hour, toll-free, confidential suicide-prevention hotline for youth.
The National Runaway Safeline
Operates 1-800-RUNAWAY, a confidential and anonymous crisis hotline for runaway and homeless youth that is available 24 hours a day and provides youth with services, including crisis interventions and referrals.
A hotline staffed by transgender people for transgender people. Trans Lifeline volunteers are ready to respond to whatever support needs members of the transgender community may have.
The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) works to ensure safe schools for all students, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity. Specifically, GLSEN provides training and resources to K?12 educators, school staff, and preservice teachers to support LGBT students and improve school climate, incorporating supportive and inclusive curriculum or implementing antibullying or antidiscrimination policies.
Develops strong, sustainable LGBT community centers and builds a thriving center network that creates healthy, vibrant communities. Provides nationwide directory of LGBT community centers.
PFLAG national directory
PFLAG, formerly known as Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, is a supportive, chapter-based organization offering advocacy, education, and social events for LGBTQ individuals and allies. The national directory helps to locate a PFLAG center near you.
Trans Youth Equality Foundation
Provides education, advocacy, and support for transgender and gender nonconforming children and youth.
Provides consultation, training, and events designed to help families, educators, professionals, and organizations understand and address the concepts of gender identity and gender expression.
Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere (COLAGE) provides support, advocacy, and resources for youth with LGBT parents. The organization has chapters in California, New York, Washington, Illinois, and Massachusetts. COLAGE’s resources include online communities and the KidSafe blog.
Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) Network
The mission of the GSA is to work toward a more accepting environment for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, through education, support, social action, and advocacy.
